The Xcite 1200-2 Inertial Mass Excitation system provides a new dimension to structural testing. The ES-302 Exciter contains a 250 lb mass which is accelerated through a 2″ displacement by a hydraulic actuator. The 2,000 lb inertial force which is generated provides ample input to structures such as those shown below to perform low frequency seismic studies and high frequency rotating equipment analyses.
The ability of this system to excite massive structures without the use of backup fixtures enhances the capability of any test laboratory to test heretofore unweildy structures.

The cylinderical 250 lb mass is guided by three rods using linear ball bearings. This support scheme minimizes side loads on the actuator bearings and seals and allows the use of the ES-302 in any orientation.
A double ended hydraulic cylinder capable of over 2,000 lbs peak force is used to drive the inertial mass through a 2″ stroke. Control of the hydraulic oil flow is with a two stage servo-valve.
The static center position of the mass is maintained by the feedback control loop from a displacement signal generated by an LVDT displacement transducer.
The dynamic force of the exciter is monitored by a strain gage load cell. The feedback from this load cell is used by the controller in maintaining the desired force level.
